Friendship, like faith, is best when it is built upon the solid rock of Jesus Christ. There is something so utterly special about sharing where you are in your walk with the Lord with a room full of believers. It's a privilege that we all surely take for granted. I know I do.

It's just funny how a room full of people can be so different, and still have this intricate similarity that binds them together despite their age, where they are in life or their gender.

Core groups met at my house last night (at least the high school and college kids did), and we were able to witness this.

RESURGENCE, I ask you, where else are you able to sustain a conversation about Morgan Freeman's beast voice over skills? There's nothing like it. Thanks to all who came out last night, that was fun. We didn't even have to put in the Blind Side for entertainment! We just talked, and ate massive brownies. Brownies that were made with one egg when the recipe called for four. We witness these small miracles every day ;)

If you missed it, we're reading C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters this summer. Hopefully this will provoke a lot of questions and stimulate a lot of thoughts about the Kingdom that we serve, and the God who loves and protects us.

God doesn't call us to be ignorant about the spiritual warfare on this earth. Without being dramatically spiritual, these conversations need to be had, these questions need to be answered. Why else would scripture urge us to, "Put on the full armor of God," if we didn't need it?

(The books haven't come in yet, but they should be in by Sunday! Pick up your copy and read the first five "letters" by next Wednesday!)

lnf: the killer shrews

Well, RESURGENCE friends, last night marked the very first LATE NITE FANDANGO of the summer. If you all missed it (which, a lot of you did- don't worry though, Charles wasn't even there), you missed out on some classic Shakespearean dialogue, and plot twists.

No, not really.

For those of you who have never been to a glorious LNF, here are a few things to expect:

1. There will always be a bad, 1960's, black and while film shown.

2. They will never have a clear message, good graphics or good acting.

3. Quite frankly, there will never be anything good about the movies shown.

4. There will always be incessant mocking of the featured film.

5. The lead male in the film is always "Charles." (Hence Dwight's nickname).

6. The lead female in the film is always "Betty." (Hence my nickname).

7. RESURGENCE will always make a movie at the end of the summer that will exceed all of the expectations of the real LNF movies, and become the biggest, funniest (and sometimes scariest) conglomeration of all of the movies we have featured during this summer.

Basically, the Killer Shrews, revolved around this species of ROUSES (Rodents Of Unusual Size, The Princess Bride, anyone?) who have taken over this island. This particular species of ROUSES must feed on three times their body weight every few hours, or risk starvation. Betty, Charles, a doctor, a Hispanic butler named "Mario," and Betty's boyfriend were stranded on this island where the ROUSES lie.

Mario, in and of himself, had many fabulous moments on screen. Very humorous.

How about when Charles simply wanted to open a door, and Betty's boyfriend sucker punched him in the face?

The ROUSES were clearly dogs with mice masks on.

If you all missed it, and you are desperately sorry and feel as if your life suffered a great loss because you could not make it, I strongly suggest you try to make it to next week's!

Hello RESURGENCE friends! This week is full of fun-packed summertime previews!

First and foremost (and I am extremely excited about this, so bear with me if this blog suddenly becomes heavy-laden, down-trodden or whatever other combination of words you would use, with lots of crazy lovin' good times) OUR CRAZY LOVE LADY'S BIBLE STUDY STARTS THIS WEEK TUESDAY (TONIGHT) @ 8 PM, at CAFE CATURA on GROVE AVENUE!

Phew, I feel so much better.

Hopefully, ladies, this study will be beneficial. I will tell you quite frankly (all jokes of insecurity aside) that I am so not the person well-equipped to lead this study. Security? Are you kidding me? And, if you're an avid follower of all of those trusty Facebook invitations, you'll recall me saying that the more I read this book, the more I feel I need to be reading this book.

Like Beth says (we're best friends, in case you didn't know, so we're on a first-name basis), I don't want to miss out on life because of snakes. If you read the first couple of pages of the book, you'll know what she's talking about. From what I can decipher, she loves to take morning walks - this proves to be dangerous in the area of Texas she currently lives in. Like the quote says above, she's "Not missing life to snakes."

That, in a nutshell, is what I would love this summer to be about. Learning not to miss life for snakes. Whether they be literal (gosh, I certainly hope not) or metaphorical (that's probably the case).

I hope you are all as excited as I am. Let's get this thang started. Anyone up for a delicious Catura Shake?!

Hello RESURGENCE friends, family and followers! 1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to a God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

As RESURGENCE Betty, my prayer is that this blog (more importantly RESURGENCE as a whole) will solely declare the praises of our King, our Father in Heaven.
